A Home For Christmas
’Tis the season for all things Christmas!
I don’t know about you, but I love decorating my home through out the year for the different holidays, especially Christmas time. There are so many things that make Christmas time so special: the meaning, the traditions, the twinkling lights, the joy on my sons faces, and all the holiday movies. I just LOVE Christmas! With each passing year I find myself wanting to make my house more and more festive. Like the song says, these are a few of my favorite things that help can help get your home ready for the holidays too!
I like to pick out a few spaces in my home to decorate. My entryway is one of those spaces, and possibly my favorite space in my house. It’s probably the space that people are going to see the most so making it pop and stand out is something I truly enjoy. I try to keep it simple, since I am a mom of 3 boys I don’t have time to spend hours upon hours decorating my house. Simple things like switching out my usual cotton wreath to my new favorite Christmas decoration, Rudolph.
I have to brag about one of my friends and fellow Fort Mill Moms Brittany Franey. She makes these adorable Rudolph’s right from her home and hand paints them. Another item that I add to my entry way is our stocking box! My husband and I built this a few years ago when we didn’t want to put any holes into our mantle. We took to Pinterest for some ideas and it didn’t disappoint. Now that we don’t have a mantle our stocking box goes great on our hallway table. I love decorating the inside of the box and adding some lights to really set it off. Handmade touches are some of my favorites! That’s why I cant wait to get to Nailed It DIY Studio in Baxter to create something to add to our holiday decor!
Adding pops of red or green to different objects can really bring the holiday feel in. Something as simple as a bow on chairs or curtains can help make your home feel more Christmasy. Is that even a word?! I have these beautiful white curtains and they look amazing with some red ribbon and bows tied around them. I like to change out my centerpieces on my dinning room table and on my island to something more festive. I just grab some cinnamon scented pine cones and red and silver bulbs and add it to a glass vase. I try to save costs where I can and use stuff I already have on hand. The Dollar Tree is a great place to get some Christmas decor for cheap.
Last, but certainly not least is the Christmas Tree! My husband wants to get the biggest tree possible every single year. In our last home we were able to get 12ft trees but in our new home we are limited to a 9-10ft tree. We pick out the perfect spot in our home for our tree and that even means having to move some furniture around to accommodate for the size tree we get. We try to add as many lights as we possibly can. There’s just something about a well lit tree that makes my heart happy. The more lights, the better! Growing up, we never had a real tree. There’s a lot of things I love about a fake tree, no clean up, no watering, limbs are sturdier; but it simply does not replace the wonderful scent of a real Christmas Tree. A real Christmas Tree keeps your home smelling festive all month long. My boys love to help decorate the tree! My favorite ornaments are the ones that are personalized. My son made the cutest ornament in preschool with his handprint. This could be a great craft to do with the kiddos. Each finger is a different decorated snowman. This could also serve as a great gift for the grandparents.
Happy Holiday Decorating Mamas! Just remember that this is the happiest time of year and our children will have these memories for a lifetime. I know this time of year can be chaotic and hectic but lets just take the time to breath and TAKE IT ALL IN!
