The Four Gifts

The Four Gifts

Years ago I read how one family had narrowed their gift giving down to four items for each child. Something to read.
Something to wear.
Something they need.
Something they want.

Sounds simple right? We have tried year after year to narrow down to these four themes and let me tell you, it’s a lot harder than I thought! I’ve realized I over do Christmas. Okay maybe not just Christmas but all holidays and birthdays. Every year I do too much and swear the next year will be different. Then every Christmas Eve, somewhere between wrapping paper stuck to my foot, covered in glitter that I don’t know where it came from I realize, oops I did it again.
Not this year! I’m not going to let the delirium of Christmas music and over caffeinated Target strolling get me this year! I am going in with a plan. Im going in with Prime.

Yup, Amazon Prime! This is the first Christmas since we signed up for Amazon prime. Yes, I know how behind I am, but listen, I have never been a big online shopper. That was until I couldn’t find some items in a store anywhere. They were only on Prime! So with these Amazon only items plus a free 30 day trial and I was sunk. Now I can tunnel vision my Christmas shopping and leave strolling Target to my self care routine! Here’s my game plan for our four items for our three kids.

Oldest-
Our oldest is 8 going on 19. He is the mindcraft, dog man reading, hype-ing, too cool for mom to sing in public kind of dude. Which actually makes it super easy to buy for him!

Something to read.
DogMan

When I was the best parent ever, you know durning that first pregnancy when I knew everything, I thought my son would be reading amazing books like The Boxcar Children or Hardy Boys. Instead he reads books about grown men flying around in their underwear and dogs that fight crime. But hey, he is reading. Right?
He is on book four of the series! Which is the longest he has actually stayed with a book so I am calling it a win!

Something to wear.
Mindcraft everything

M-I-N-D-C-R-A-F-T. Yup, a simple search for mindcraft clothes and volia! I know he will freak out over this and wont take it off for days. But that’s okay! Maybe he will give his other mindcraft shirt a rest!

Something they need.
PJS

This was actually really hard! They don’t need a lot so I had to dig deep. Pj’s! Who doesn’t love a new pair of pj’s? We do new christmas pj’s every year but another pair just because is a great option! Plus it’s a lot more fun to open up then socks.

Something they want.
LEGOS

My little dude loves three things more than anything, Mindcraft, Lego’s and trains. I found the trifecta when it comes to his want gift! What’s even better is he has no idea. It’s also so fun when you find something that you know they would want so much and they don’t even know yet!

Middlest-
Yes, we call our middle the middlest. He is our little sports kid, rolls with the punches, and is the most caring child I have ever meet. He will always go last so his siblings get to go first and when ever he gets a special just him gift or present he always asks for something that he can share with his brother and sister. Seriously he was just born with a heart of gold, cause that has nothing to do with my parenting skills!

Something to read.
Kaplan How Do Dinosaurs Book CD Set
This was a harder one for us with our middlest and our youngest because they aren’t reading on their own yet. Then I remembered how amazing books on tape where growing up! Being able to follow along and feel like a big kid as I “read” my book, to the little chimes that let you know when to turn the page. I can just feel my blanket and taste the kool-aid now! Plus, books on cd that are about dinosaurs! What six year old wouldn’t love that!

Something to wear.
Soccer Gear
Soccer, check. Long sleeves, check. His favorite color, check! Okay maybe this four gifts thing is easier than I thought!

Something they need.
PJ’s
This one is almost too easy! Why? Because what ever big brother has little brother wants so why not grab up a second pair of pjs! Win win!

Something they want.
GOAL!
What little goal/midfielder wouldn’t want their own soccer goal! This one looks like the perfect size for our backyard. Plus it is portable to take up to the field when its empty.

Littlest-
Our littlest is our princess. She is a fire cracker in a tutu and I love it! Anything that is glittery and pink she wants. She tends to be a little spoiled and a little sassy but with two big brothers and a daddy wrapped around her finger who wouldn’t be!

Something to read.
V’Tech Alphabet Apple

She just turned five last month and is still learning her letter sounds so her something to read is a little different! I love this VTech Alphabet Apple! It features 8 toddler learning activities with different progressive learning levels; introduces phonics, words, time concepts, music and more. I know she would love it and so would our middle son too! So double win in my book!

Something to wear.
Cute Big Girl Clothes

Oh my clothes ya’ll. She loves clothes so much. The more pink, patterns, and frills the better in her book! I learned very quickly that she doesn’t have my love of jeans and boxy cut superhero gear and thats ok. The more I want to say no to something, the more I know she will love it. Just like this little pink combo. Isn’t it amazing how much our kids come out totally themselves. I love it!

Something they need
Pj’s
Yup. You guessed it, pjs! My kids are obsessed with matching pj set right now. I’m not sure how that has happened but they are currently all the rage in our home so why not grab them a few pairs they would love. Plus she is still a 4t so why not grab cute matching footies pjs while I still can!

Something they want.
Play Table
When I ask my little lady what she wants for Christmas she said “everything I like”! This girl knows what she likes and expects everyone else to know what that is too. Thankfully we have been coordinating between family so her barbie loving, make believe, princess heart is getting so many sparkly things! One of her favorite things to play is house with her kitchen she got last year. So this year we are going to get her a little table and chairs for her room so she can take her playing house to the next level. Im obsessed with this play table because it has a little place in the middle for some of her little things, like blocks or teacups, making clean up easier. At least I’m hoping!

I am so excited for this year Christmas and can’t wait to see them open their gifts. I am even more excited for creating a new tradition that helps my sanity and keeps Christmas from getting out of hand.
